Your complete guide to setting up and securing your Trezor hardware wallet

Starting Up Your Trezor Device

Welcome to Trezor.io/start, your comprehensive guide to setting up your new Trezor hardware wallet. Whether you're new to cryptocurrency or a seasoned investor, properly initializing your device is crucial for ensuring the security of your digital assets.

Unboxing and Initial Inspection

When you first receive your Trezor, carefully unbox the device and verify that all components are present. Your package should include the Trezor device itself, a USB cable, recovery seed cards, and various informational materials. Inspect the device for any signs of tampering – the holographic seal should be intact and untampered.

Connecting to Trezor Suite

Download and install Trezor Suite, the official desktop application for managing your Trezor device. Connect your Trezor using the provided USB cable. The device will prompt you to install the latest firmware – this is a critical security step that ensures you have all current protections against potential vulnerabilities.

Creating Your Wallet

Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new wallet. Your Trezor will generate a unique recovery seed – typically 12, 18, or 24 words – that serves as the master key to your cryptocurrency. Write this seed down on the provided recovery cards and store them in separate, secure locations. Never digitize your recovery seed or store it online.

Setting Up PIN Protection

Establish a PIN code to protect physical access to your device. The PIN matrix displayed on Trezor Suite randomizes number positions, preventing keyloggers from capturing your PIN. Choose a PIN that's difficult to guess but memorable to you.

Transferring Your Assets

Once your wallet is set up, you can begin transferring cryptocurrency to your Trezor. Use the receive function in Trezor Suite to generate addresses for each cryptocurrency you wish to store. Always verify receiving addresses on your Trezor device screen before sending funds.
